Russian Hackers Allegedly Stole Microsoft Source Code
Microsoft revealed that Russia’s hacking group, Midnight Blizzard (also known as NOBELIUM, APT29, and Cozy Bear), gained access to internal systems and source code. They achieved this by exploiting stolen credentials from a January cyberattack. Earlier in January, Microsoft identified a cyberattack by Midnight Blizzard targeting their corporate email servers. The attackers used a password spraying technique to compromise an older, non-production test account, which lacked multi-factor authentication. While the attack was detected in January, Microsoft traced the initial infiltration back to November 2023. This highlights the group’s persistence. Notably, Midnight Blizzard is the same group behind the large-scale SolarWinds supply chain attack in 2020. (2024)

The strategy is the roadmap that will help realize the Australian government’s vision of becoming a world leader in cyber security by 2030. To achieve this vision, we need to protect Australians. Through the strategy, we seek to improve our cyber security, manage cyber risks, and better support citizens and Australian businesses to manage the cyber environment around them. We will do this with six cybershields.
